Objective 1:
Expand
and strengthen TechEd Monterey
Bay, a collaborative
partnership of all Tech Prep programs in district feeder schools
offering a minimum of two years of secondary education and two years
of postsecondary education in a nonduplicative, sequential course of
study.
1.1 Strengthen partner relationships and
connections between secondary and postsecondary education.
Outcome: 1.1.1 Signed Memorandum of Understanding with each
school, including clearly defined procedures for tech prep students pursuing
studies at MPC.
1.2 Update TechEd
Monterey Bay
website and investigate the possibility of using it as an
interactive site for faculty and counselors to post information
(reports and articulation updates) and ask questions.
Outcomes:
1.2.1
Easily navigated website hosted by Monterey Peninsula
College and accessible by
all consortia members and local businesses.
1.2.2
Accessible accurate information will result
in increased enrollment in tech prep programs and support from the
community.
1.3 Hold a minimum of three
regular consortium meetings during the year, hosted by MPC.
Outcome:
1.3.1 Increased
collaboration and advanced planning time for new programs of study.
Objective 2:
Complete articulation agreements between high schools and community
college/universities for all existing and future pathways and
academies that represent nonduplicative sequential programs of
study.

Complete articulation agreements for new programs and annual updates
for existing programs and courses.
Outcomes: 2.1.1
Annual update forms will be signed and on file. 2.1.2
New programs and course will be added offering more
options for students.
2.2
Use Statewide Pathways templates for all new articulation
agreements.

Courses will be transferable to other institutions with more
uniform agreements that accepted across the state.
2.3 Work toward getting update forms available online so work can
be done electronically.

Working through the shared governance system at the college, clarify

Objective 3:
Work
with county ROP
and local high schools to sequence programs of study and determine
new programs of study.
3.1
Meet with county ROP
director and complete listing of programs of study from each high
school that lead to a certificate or degree at MPC
Outcome: 3.1.1 More
opportunities for students and awareness of programs of study that
are available locally.
3.2 Complete course
“maps” for each consortium partner program of study that leads to a
postsecondary certificate and/or degree, beginning at 9th
grade.
Outcomes: 3.2.1
Students will have a clear educational plan with career courses
available earlier in their high school career. 3.2.2
Fewer students will drop out with a well defined plan and a
cohesive approach to their education.
3.3
Keep an updated list of articulated courses available on the TechEd
website.

Timely availability of information will provide better resources for
student decision making. 3.3.2
Counselors will have accurate information at all times.
Objective 4:
Provide
inservice education and professional development opportunities for
teachers, faculty, administrators and counselors to keep them
informed about career technical education, tech prep program
requirements, industry needs and concerns, and programs of study.
4.1
Provide opportunities for staff to participate in local tech prep
related inservice activities.
Outcome: 4.1.1
Increased collaboration and sharing of information among consortium
partners.
4.2 Participate in
activities of the Bay Area Regional Tech Prep Collaborative to share
information and to develop regional programs of study.
Outcomes: 4.2.1 Staff will be aware of more options to
recommend to students. 4.2.2
Expanded opportunities for students to study in areas not
offered at the local college.
4.3
Provide funding for faculty and counselors to attend professional
development activities within their disciplines to update technology
skills, and to integrate contextual and applied curricula and
instruction.
Outcome: 4.3.1
Faculty will be better prepared for instruction and will keep
curriculum updated and relevant.
4.4
Incorporate inservice for counselors and administrators into annual
articulation event.
Outcome: 4.4.1
Economy of scale and time will motivate greater
participation.
Objective 5:
Provide equal access to Tech Prep programs (including
pre-apprenticeship) to individuals who are members of special
populations. This would include the development of Tech Prep program
services appropriate to address the needs of special populations.
5.1
Provide tech prep program information to campus services accessed by
special populations such as reentry and multicultural center,
supportive services, ESL center.
Outcome: 5.1.1
Students who need additional services will learn of programs that
offer high skill, high wage jobs for which they can receive
training.
5.2
Work with admissions and registration staff to identify procedures
that will assist individuals with special needs to access services
that will address their needs when they first matriculate.
Outcomes: 5.2.1 Removing some of the barriers to
registration will allow more students access to programs suited to
their interests and abilities. 5.2.2
Providing guidance to individuals with special needs improves
their chances of success.
5.3
Reinforce systems such as early alert and counseling that will
follow up with students who are not succeeding in the classroom.

5.3.1 Improving retention and
success of students.
Objective 6:
Provide for preparatory services to assist
participants in Tech Prep programs.
6.1
Plan and implement a career event for high school students who are
exploring careers.
Outcomes: 6.1.1
The Career Event will have attendance by 160 students, 3 business
partners, and 10-15 counselors/teachers. 6.1.2
Career exploration activities will be completed and students
will be introduced to
www.bacareerguide.org
as a resource.
6.2
Host a meeting between secondary and postsecondary career center
staff to assess services provided and to achieve better sequencing
and integration of services to students.
Outcome: 6.2.1
Initiatives will provide for a smoother
transition from secondary to postsecondary and less confusion in
career assessment.
Objective 7:
Coordinate with activities conducted under CTEA, Title IC basic
grant funding.
7.1
Assemble CTE faculty at regular meetings to
hear updates on college initiatives to work with business and
industry and to assess use of data in improving programs.
Outcomes:
7.1.1
Promote feeling of teamwork and demonstrates
to business that the college is serious about meeting their needs.
7.1.2 Faculty
empowerment to be involved in decisions regarding CTE and Tech Prep
programs.
7.2
Host annual advisory committee meetings as a major college event
with breakout sessions for individual programs.
Outcomes: 7.2.1
Support for CTE programs trying to operate with one or fewer
faculty. 7.2.2
Building goodwill among the business community. 7.2.3
Being considered as a serious contributor to solving industry
problems.
7.3
Promote concurrent enrollment in at least one Tech Prep/CTE program
such as Auto Technology or Hospitality.

7.3.1 Students will gain

Objective 8:
Provide
meaningful work-based education to expose students to all aspects of
an industry.
8.1
Provide job shadowing and worksite visits
for 75 percent of students enrolled in a Tech Prep Program of Study.
Outcomes: 8.1.1
Students will determine early in their academic career if they want
to pursue a certain field of study by experiencing a day on the job.
8.1.2 Businesses will
influence and educate students who participate in job shadowing and
mentoring.
8.2
Review tech prep curriculum to ascertain that all courses contain
contextual or project-based learning opportunities and appropriate
student learning outcomes and assessments.
Outcome: 8.2.1
Curriculum review will compete part of program review requirements.
8.3
CTE faculty and Cooperative Work Experience instructor will work
together to create a system for implementing internships that will
work for each Tech Prep program.
Outcome: 8.3.1
Students will benefit from industry internships and potential
employment opportunities.
8.4 Tech Prep programs of
study will address workplace needs for improved customer service
skills and basic math and English skills by using assessments and
working with Basic Skills faculty.
Outcome:
8.4.1 Employer concerns will
be addressed to the extent possible in Tech Prep programs.
Objective 9:
Development of the consortium plans in consultation with business,
industry, institutions of higher education, and labor organizations.
9.1
Institute consortium advisory meetings to provide more opportunities
for input.
Outcome: 9.1.1 Efficiency of time will be achieved, reduction of
redundancy for business partners, and greater output of ideas due to
synergy created.
9.2
Develop an annotated master list of business partners using
contributions from each consortium school.
Outcomes:
9.2.1 A pool of business
partners will be available for use as advisors, internship sites,
guest speakers, field trips, and mentors.
9.3
Create a training presentation to orient new business partners prior
to planning or advisory committee meetings.
Outcome:
9.3.1 Receiving background
information about CTE and Tech Prep will allow business partners an
opportunity for informed input and reduce the time used for
questions and explanations at meetings.
